Why Montevideo?
With more than 1.3 million residents, Montevideo ranked high on UDisc’s opportunity index as an ideal city for disc golf growth. Parque Franklin Delano Roosevelt, known for its eucalyptus groves and central location, offered the perfect setting for the country’s first course. Surrounded by schools and active sports clubs, the park creates natural opportunities for community events, youth clinics, weekly leagues, and an annual sanctioned tournament, all of which align with PMF’s mission to build strong local disc golf communities.
About this Project
In 2024, the Paul McBeth Foundation introduced Uruguay’s first permanent disc golf course in Montevideo. Until now, the city’s small but dedicated disc golf community, led by PDGA members Mauro Betschart and Petr Vyazovetskiy, relied on portable baskets for every round. The new permanent 18-hole course provides year-round access, makes it easier to introduce newcomers to the sport, and offers space for players to develop their skills.
This project builds on PMF’s previous South American work, including two nine-hole courses installed in Medellín, Colombia, in 2021. With baskets donated by Dynamic Discs and support from the Professional Disc Golf Association, the Montevideo course marks a milestone for the sport in Uruguay and lays the groundwork for expansion into neighboring Argentina.
